'83 Starring Ranveer Singh As Kapil Dev WON'T Release In Theatres Immediately Post Lockdown; Director Kabir Khan Reveals Details
The film industry has suffered a major loss due to the lockdown imposed. With theatres shut down, many films could not release on the pre-booked dates. Ranveer Singh's '83 helmed by Kabir Khan was to hit the theatres on April 10, 2020, however, the lockdown led to the postponement of the film's release. Even after two months of theatres being shut, there is no clarity on when the box-office ticket window will open. But the director of '83 has confirmed that they won't release the film digitally and will wait for the theatres to re-open. In his latest interview, he has also said that the film won't make it to the theatres immediately after the lockdown ends.

To Hindustan Times, the filmmaker was quoted saying, "We will be ready (to release when the lockdown opens), but having said that, we will only come out with our movies when the comfort is palpable." Rohit Shetty's Sooryavanshi starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif too has been delayed due to the pandemic situation in the country. Kabir Khan further mentioned that Rohit and he want the audiences to enjoy themselves while watching a film in theatres and hence, they are waiting for the situation to get better.

"There are a lot of efforts, resources and energy that go into films and we would like people to enjoy our films. Both, Rohit and I, would want the audience to enjoy our films on the big screen and therefore we are ready to wait it out for things to get better. It’s not like the lockdown will open and we will throw our films to test the waters. No. We will wait till we’re comfortable," he said.

'83 is based on India's World Cup victory in 1983 with Kapil Dev being the captain. Ranveer Singh essays the role of the ace cricketer in the film. (Also Read: Ranveer Singh On Spending Lockdown With Wife Deepika Padukone: ‘It’s Given Time To Re-Discover Each Other In A Different Way’)
